Never Pat Yourself On The Back Too Soon

Thursday, July 2, 2015

Yesterday we decided to just stay home and get things ready for our trip back to Virginia.  We will see what there is to see in Asheville the next time we are in the area.

Today we left Waynesville, NC around 9:00 a.m. and headed back to Virginia with a planned overnight in  Wytheville where we stayed on our way back to Alabama, but Ron decided since the weather was overcast and just drizzly that he wanted to go on to Waynesboro, VA and stay at the Elks Lodge tonight.  We were congratulating ourselves about going in the right direction as there was a long back up going south only to find ourselves at the end of a  15 mile back up going north a couple of hours later.  It was nearly two hours before we reached the accident area which was a semi with 52 foot trailer which had caught fire.  Everything had been removed except the burned cargo when we reached the area.

One of the things we noticed in North Carolina along the interstates at the exit and entry ramps and rest areas are the large beautiful beds of continuous blooming day lilies.  With all the natural green of trees and and shrubbery, these displays of lilies are a beautiful contrast.  Too bad we aren't able to do this in our dry desert to contrast the brown.  Unfortunately, this is not the best picture to show what we were seeing.

Reached the Elks Lodge about 6:30, set up for the night and went in to have a much needed drink.  The Elks Lodge here in Waynesboro is in a lovely acreage residential area and sits atop a hill surrounded by lots of grass and overlooks rolling hills, farmland and cattle grazing area with lots of trees and shrubbery. Very beautiful, serene and peaceful.

We will return here next weekend for three days before going to Williamsburg since we already have a reservation at a local private campground for the week.

Down Time

Just a quiet day moving the RV from the Elks Lodge to the Waynesboro North 340 Campground.  Going to a July 4th Parade in Staunton tomorrow with son Bill and his family then a cookout at their house later in the day with fireworks at the same.
