Driving North to Marysville and Yuba City

Sunday, June 4, 2017

Our drive today was north to Marysville and Yuba City through the low farm country.  Marysville did not have a great deal to offer though Yuba City did with some old buildings and a wonderful place to eat lunch. We found Lumberjack Restaurant along the main highway and thought we would try it out.  Outside was this large statue of a lumberjack and inside we found the walls made with logs, large lumber jack saws on the walls, old pictures of lumberjacks and our waitress dressed in jeans and a large red and black plaid shirt over a white T shirt.  Cute.

They serve breakfast all day and also offer lunch and dinner.  Being the breakfast people we are, we ordered breakfast and both our meals were delicious and very filing.  We won’t need any dinner tonight as it is already after 2 p.m.

In the old part of Yuba City we found an old Hall of Records building, Courthouse, this tall building (maybe a hotel or an office building in its day) with an extensive fire escape on the back,

Ron was intrigued with how the fire escape looked.
ornate iron work light fixtures in the center of the downtown streets with flags flying from the top,

 a few old stores

and some old homes.

While much is the same in old towns, they are each nonetheless interesting and different.

On the way out of town is Ellis Lake where I spied these swans and their young swimming far across the lake and near the island in the middle.

We drove back through the countryside toward Grass Valley which is above and east of Auburn.  On the map I spied the town of “Timbuctoo” and had hoped to photograph the town sign but apparently I blinked when we passed it for I never saw a sign.  We did however pass Smartsville where Ron had hoped to get some smarts, but that did not happen either.

Another day we will return to Grass Valley and Nevada City to explore these cities and take pictures but for now we return home to the comfort of our RV.
